—Let’s Talk About The Ick…

Written By : Annalisa Frumento

Since I can remember, I  have always had adults telling me “boys are gross and mean”. They’d make gross concoctions out of their leftover food at the lunch table and dance cringely at prom or at Cotillion without a care in the world, when you spent so much time thinking about your outfit and what color tie he should wear to match your dress. As our generation has matured, and I started dating men instead of boys, I realize they still don’t put milk inside of their leftover pizza… But in the past few years, there’s been an Internet craze where women share their “icks”. And they’re not what you might think they are. Girls are getting cringed by the way their boyfriend puts on socks or imagining them in a bathtub, which should really be cringe though is  remembering that dance at prom.

I will say a lot of these “icks” are very valid after scrolling through the tab on TikTok. I got some really outlandish ones. Things like, imagine your boyfriend getting to the cash register and forgetting his wallet or, imagine your boyfriend posting a TikTok thirst trap. All these things are objectively cringe, and I think that spreading these are very funny and bring women closer as a community. As there are hundreds of thousands of posts on the Internet about “the ick”

I do find though, that some of these icks are actually endearing! If you love somebody enough, the idea of them doing a canon ball doesn’t make you cringe. That’s what these icks should be teaching us. If you can see past a cringey mishap then maybe this is the guy for you! We should see the ick as a litmus test, and for me, it has worked so far!

So girls, my advice to you is… Of course he will be cringey at times, after all he’s human! I mean let’s face it, they all are. But if you are finding you get the ick to a concerning degree, you need to evaluate your situationship!
