Velvet: The Sexy, Luxe Material You Need in Your Closet and Your Home

Written By : Hannah Corbett

Let’s talk about velvet—a fabric so indulgent, it practically dares you not to touch it. This rich, dreamy material came roaring back into our lives around 2018, and let me tell you, I went all in. Velvet dresses, velvet tops, velvet scrunchies (it was the moment)—oh and, even velvet bathing suits. I spent way too much money on it all, but here’s the kicker: I regret nothing. Well I did for a while, but NOW since it’s coming back around, I regret NOTHING!

Ready to embrace the velvet lifestyle? Let’s talk about it!!!

Velvet in Fashion:

I do think that sometimes, velvet can be overkill.  If you’re going to wear it, you have to wear it sparingly.  I love velvet in accessories.  Velvet scarf, shoes, bags, tights!!  One of my favorite tops I own is a black velvet top and it never ever misses.

Velvet in Your Home:

In 2018, I was drooling over velvet couches. Today, as I'm typing this, I'm in an olive green lounge chair, and it’s the highlight of my living room.  I feel like ALSO velvet home decor accessories are the perfect hint.  Since I already have the lounge chair I don't want to go overboard.  But I have one velvet throw pillow just to match everything together.  And maybe it’s because the Holidays are literally right around the corner but The Holidays SCREAM velvet indulgence.  Velvet table runners and stockings, ornaments, ribbons and bows!

If 2018 me could see 2024 me, she’d be proud. Velvet may have had a resurgence, but it never really went away. It’s sexy, cozy, and surprisingly practical—whether I’m wearing it or decorating with it. So if you haven’t jumped on the velvet train yet, consider this your sign. It’s time to wrap yourself—and your home—in the fabric that just keeps on giving.
