When I went to Italy this past October, I packed outfits I’d been saving for what felt like forever—a vintage leopard dress I found on Depop and zebra kitten heels with bows that never seemed to fit the right occasion.
On this trip, I was obsessed with every piece I put on my body and made it a point to wear what I loved, no matter the occasion. Whether it was to sit down for a cappuccino and croissant in the morning or a day of sightseeing, I stepped out feeling confident and fully myself.
Since coming home, I’ve been carrying this mindset into my daily life. I’ve started rejecting the idea that it’s a waste to wear something special on an ordinary day. For instance, I bought a genuine leather jacket in Florence and immediately thought, I need somewhere really good to wear this. But after it sat in my closet for a month, I finally decided: why wait? I wore it to work on a regular weekday. No event, no grand plans—just because I felt like it.
This shift in mindset bleeds into every aspect of life. Why do we feel the need to wait for the “perfect time”? The right time to travel. The right time to switch jobs. The right time to pursue a dream. At the end of the day, all we have is now.
So, swap your loafers for cowboy boots—they elevate your outfit and feel more authentically you. That designer shoulder bag from the flea market you’ve been saving? Wear it to lunch; it makes a bolder statement than your go-to tote.
The present moment holds more value than ever, especially in a world that can change in the blink of an eye. Why not spend our time wearing what we love? Using the fancy china that makes us feel elegant and sophisticated? Cutting our hair on a whim because we feel inspired?
What we have right now is all that exists, so let’s embrace it fully—no more hiding or conforming.
