Winters' Warmest Sweater: American Vintage

Written By : Molleigh Mae

Cold weather finally is rolling in well…*almost everywhere. Even if I’m opting for a light layer, you’ll catch me throwing on a button up sweater. Keep your closet fun with trendy accessories + things here and there, but sweaters are one thing I think everyone should invest in as a high quality piece. I have many sweater brand recommendations, but let's go on a tangent about American Vintage. I first heard of American Vintage by my favorite youtuber, Rachel Autenreith. She went on a trip to Montana, along with her friend Lily Steigleman and their better halves. Admiring the content of course, I couldn’t help but notice both a stunning green striped sweater, and a perfectly oversized classic grey sweater she was pairing multiple ways. This was the og Vitow sweater with a stunning American Vintage patch sewn on the bottom of the sweater. Purchased. How could I withhold adding this to my closet, it’s timeless.

American Vintage is a french brand born in 2005, by Michaël Azoulay in the comfort of his own community. Their designs are focused on the whole fam, and curated to last. What makes American Vintage stand out to me is their fabrics. They opt for the finest natural fabrics they can when designing their pieces. What really sets them apart from other high quality sweaters… the pantone’s that represent American Vintage. When you are adding a sweater of theirs to your wishlist, trust me from experience- you aren’t gonna find another one like it. Though they have a passion for color, their wardrobes are driven to be “colourful and comfortable”. What’s more convincing than that?

If you aren’t convinced yet, and I understand (knit) happens, the price tag can be intimidating… read my take on why it is important to invest in high quality sweaters. Like most high-quality pieces, sweaters are made with superior materials and construction techniques. Your cost per wear weighs out to be less than any”cheaper” sweater you’ve bought because of the better durability, longevity, extended comfort and overall style. Opting for a cheaper sweater, one- you’ll most likely be settling for a style you weren’t particularly loving, two- the cheaper, the more likely to deteriorate, show visible wear and tear and only last you a season. Most importantly, high-quality sweaters often use more sustainable materials and production practices vs. fast fashion at a more affordable price. Fast fashion sweaters often are produced with ethically sourced materials and production processes. It’s a win-win…invest in the timeless sweater = make a better choice environmentally.

In conclusion- achieve the greatest winter warmth this season in American Vintage and for years to come!
