Sunny days in London are hard to come by

Written By : Annalisa Frumento

When I went away this past January to London, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I hopped on a flight and moved into an international school with an ocean between everything I have ever known. So, I strapped on my big-girl shoes and decided to do the only thing I could, make a friend. Once I made one, I finally felt at peace, I mean now at least I have somebody to eat meals with. Once her and I created a friend group, we started doing virtually everything together. But, my favorite memory is not of our vacations or one of our crazy nights out, it is of the first truly sunny day we had in London. A seemingly mundane day turned into something so wholesome and memorable that I slip into my thoughts from time to time for some sort of grasp, just trying to relive some of it again even if it’s just in my head.

We started by going to the Tesco on the corner and buying some snacks and drinks, which all of us broke uni students pitched in for of course. We bought some limes and plastic knives to make mangled wedges with but we didn’t care about cleanliness or the wedges being perfect, in fact, the messier the better. It was our first fully sunny day in  London, and we had to take advantage of it, nothing was going to hold us back from our plans. I laid down my pink tiny dorm blanket I had gotten from Primark, and set up the speaker and we all opened a Corona and shoved a piece of our messy limes inside.

As the hours went by we talked meaninglessly and meaningfully. Every topic was covered from a drinking game, to our biggest fears. The day felt like it was never going to end, and we didn’t want it to. Basking in the sun with my friends and a breeze was my favorite memory from my entire time in London. At the risk of sounding straight off of the cob like a cornball, friendship is truly one of the most powerful forces and privileges we get to have in this life.

Sunny days in London are hard to come by, but they would not be half as fun without somebody special to enjoy them with.
