There’s Nothing Wrong With A Curated Aesthetic

Written By : Jacqueline Rappa

I was looking at my own Instagram today and realized how different my outfits and vibes are in each of my photos. My most recent post shows me in an all-black leather matching set: micro shorts and a halter top. Another photo is of me in a white sequin maxi skirt and a bright blue strapless top with a flower I pinned to it – totally giving ‘mermaid core.’ In another, I’m wearing a fur coat in warm hues of brown and cream.

I clearly don’t have one set style, and I love all of them.

For each of these looks, I had a specific aesthetic in mind while getting dressed. For the all-black look, I was going to a Charli XCX concert and wanted to match the vibe of brat. The sequin maxi skirt? I was on a beach vacation. And the brown fur look? That was a city day. Each outfit was curated – intentionally.

But that’s the art of it. Thinking about the feeling I want to give off when someone first sees my outfit.

I don’t always want to dress the same because I’m not always the same.

My preferences shift, just like my hobbies, moods, and ideas. My style reflects that.

I have a lot of different interests, and sometimes it feels like they’re battling each other in my closet. For example, when I’m picking out clothes for a night out, I might struggle because lately I’ve been shopping for more boho pieces, when what I really want is to serve something edgier. That’s when I dive deep into my closet and play dress-up until I find something that fits the vibe.

But it’s always worth it because I get to express myself in whichever way I’m feeling that day. And through it, I get a better sense of what I want to thrift next or what keywords to search on Depop.
