Spring Cleaning our Closets & Mind

Written By : Hannah Corbett

I couldn’t help but wonder: Is spring cleaning just for our closets, or is it time to declutter our minds too?

As we step into the sun-drenched days of spring and summer 2025, it’s not just about swapping out sweaters for sundresses. It’s about a full transformation—body, mind, and maybe even a little bit of soul. Because let’s be real, what good is a perfectly curated summer wardrobe if your energy still screams hibernation?

This season, I’m embracing effortless coastal chic—linen button-downs every day, staple white T-shirts, the tank top I still have from 2013 with lace trim from Abercrombie & Fitch (yes, I still have it, and yes, I’m wearing it). All of that, thrown over bikinis, tiny sunglasses, and sandals. Maybe even Sperrys?? Allegedly, they’re making a comeback, and if I’m being honest, one of my high school friendships actually ended over a pair of Sperrys, so I kind of cringe when I think of them. But also—wouldn’t it be completely iconic of me to wear them again?

I do want to bring up the oversized, baggy Levi’s shorts that go down to our knees. I’m not exactly sure if I can pull them off, but I love watching other people wear them. I have to at least try them because if I don’t get my hands on a pair, I’ll never know. So, besides those shorts, I want to thrift some vintage Levi’s, and that’ll be my staple for the summer. But beyond the aesthetic, there’s a bigger shift happening.

Gone are the days of dressing for the male gaze or for what’s “flattering.” I saw someone recently say, "You know your outfit is good when your boyfriend looks at you with confused, squinting eyes and says, “What are you wearing?” And I really resonated with that. The new summer wardrobe is about dressing for the feeling. That linen dress? You wear it because it makes you feel like the main character in a Nancy Meyers movie. The off-white top and mismatched bottoms that aren’t technically a set, but close enough? You wear them because they remind you of something a cool girl in a 90s movie would throw on before running to the farmer’s market. Clothes aren’t just clothes anymore—they’re mood-setters.

But if we’re talking about shifting our closets, we have to talk about shifting our minds, too. Because we can’t walk into summer 2025 with the same cluttered thoughts we’ve been carrying all winter. So I started small. A long walk in the morning, no destination, just movement. It felt indulgent at first, like I should be doing something more productive. But somewhere between the quiet hum of the ocean waves in the distance and the first sip of my coffee, I remembered—going outside is not overrated. Finding peace in your busy day is NOT overrated!!  Neither is finding a podcast you actually like, I’ve been loving listening to female founders talk about their beginnings.  I swapped out my usual playlist for something new, something that made me feel like a version of myself I hadn’t seen in a while.

I signed up for a workout class that intimidated me, the kind where people actually enjoy sweating. I showed up, I for sure struggled, I left feeling alive. I stopped doom scrolling before bed, swapped TikTok for a book, It wasn’t a massive overhaul, just small shifts. Little ways to make space, to clear out what wasn’t serving me.

If 2024 was all about the clean girl era, 2025 is about glowing girl summer. It’s the year we stop forcing and start flowing—romantically, professionally, personally. It’s the summer of wearing what makes you feel like you, of listening to new music just because it makes your soul dance.

So, my summer 2025 goal? To romanticize everything. The oversized jeans. The sweaty post-Pilates glow. The iced coffee on the way to nowhere in particular. Because at the end of the day, spring cleaning isn’t just about what’s in our closets—it’s about making space for the things that make us feel alive.
