Living Authentically: What That Actually Looks Like
Written By : Jacqueline Rappa
We hear it all the time: “Live your most authentic life.” But what does that really mean? For me, it’s about making choices that feel aligned with who I am at my core, not who the world expects me to be. It’s less about finding yourself and more about returning to yourself. Quieting the noise, noticing what feels good, and creating a life that reflects your values.
Here are a few tips that have helped me tap into that version of myself. They’re simple, but powerful reminders that you don’t have to wait for the “right” moment to live authentically. You can start now.
1. Embrace being single
There are certain moments in life that can only be fully experienced alone. Let yourself feel them. When you’re single, your decisions are entirely your own, uninfluenced by a partner’s preferences. That freedom isn’t something to rush past. It’s not that having a partner is a bad thing, but being alone allows you to tune into who you really are without outside opinions. Learn how to enjoy your own company and trust your intuition. That’s where self-connection begins.
2. Travel as often as you can
You don’t have to fly across the world to step outside your comfort zone. A weekend getaway to a new town can shift your perspective. Talk to people who live different lives from yours. Try new foods. Sit in a café and just observe. Traveling reminds you that wherever you go, the one constant is you. There’s something really powerful about finding peace and joy in unfamiliar places. The more you challenge yourself, the more grounded and grateful you’ll feel.
3. Read more
Books have a way of expanding your inner world. They spark your thoughts and inspire creativity. If you’re a writer, they can help you push through mental blocks. But even if you're not, swapping screen time for a good story is one of the kindest things you can do for your mind. Let yourself get lost in a character’s world. Picture the beach from that summer romance novel. Reading reconnects you to your own curiosity.
