Girl World: The Ultimate Spring Itinerary
Written By : Grace Weidenhamer
So, the sun came out in Ohio for the first time in months, and if you’re from the Midwest, you know what that means. It’s time to break out the shorts and flip-flops. Drive down the street on a 55 degree and sunny day and you’ll see college girls tanning in their front yard, middle-aged men mowing the lawn shirtless, and happy hour-ers sipping something iced on a patio.
And I can’t even make fun of them because I have been, and am, all of them (well, except the middle-aged man, obviously). But the “nice” weather and a free weekend ahead got me thinking - what is my perfect spring day? Allow me to bring you into my fantasy:
It starts on a Saturday. 8 am workout class. Just enough time to sleep in without rushing out the door. Maybe you put your hair up in a mask or do a little slick-back. Maybe you pop on some ice-cold eye patches if you’re just as obsessed with them as me. Matching set is on, yoga mat is one hand and a bottle of electrolytes with pebble ice is on the other.
You meet your friends there, hot and sweaty, music blaring, vibes are pristine. You know you have an iced coffee waiting for you on the other side. Holding that high plank will not ruin your vibe today. We’re sweaty enough to have that post-workout glow, but not enough to leave a sweat mark on the seat (you know what I’m talking about).
You pull up with your friends to a local coffee shop and they just dropped a new seasonal latte. There’s enough people out to feel a buzz, but not enough to overwhelm you. You and your girls take your drinks (and your freshly-baked pastries), put your sunnies on, and hit the path. It’s time for a walk, chatting about your weeks and soaking in the sun while the caffeine hits your system.
After the walk, you head home, music playing with the windows down. When you get home you take a fat “everything shower” with your windows cracked and candles lit. It’s warm enough for jeans and a cute top. Maybe you throw a cardigan in your car just in case. Your next stop is the farmer’s market to pick up a new bouquet of flowers for your living room and some supplies for a make-shift picnic. Sourdough, cheese, prosciutto, maybe some honey or fruit. It’s time to catch up on your book, too.
After lunch, you head to a thrift or antique store. Do you need anything? Of course not, but that’s not the point. You’re strolling, window shopping, and if you’re lucky, finding some treasures.
You’ve had an eventful day so far, so it’s time to go home and relax. When rest time is over, it’s time for dinner, and you already know we have a reservation. It’s between 3 and 5 pm - the perfect time for small plates and drinks. On a patio, of course. You take your time, knowing you’ve got nowhere to be tonight. After dinner you grab a scoop of ice cream before heading home, getting into your pjs, and turning on the coziest movie you can think of. You settle in with your sweet treat and hit the hay early.
