— If I was at the Met Gala
Written By : Annalisa Frumento
This year’s Met Gala theme was just announced; Fashion is Art. Cochairs this year are Beyoncé, Nikole Kidman, and Venus Williams. The theme is pretty vague, but if I were attending, I know exactly what I would do.
Obviously I am not a famous actress or fashion mogul of any high regard, but if I were, I would take my look to the next level every year! Firstly, I would need to be going with a designer. My dream? Alessandro Michele. Currently the Creative Director of Valentino but put on the map by his work at Gucci, Michele’s work has famously been seen on stars like Lana Del Rey, Harry Styles and Lady Gaga on the Met Gala carpet, just to name a few.
I would tell him that I want my dress to be an ode to one of my favorite paintings, “Girl With a Pearl Earring” by Vermeer. I find a sense of completion and gratification when I set my mind to a task and do it without any flaws, so I would dress exactly like the lady in the painting. I would wear the exact shade of blue, and have my hair the same shade of blonde. To run the risk of looking campy or too costumed is a risk I’d be willing to take, especially for a viral moment.
A tasteful recreation is what I am aiming for, but the art direction would be custom and spot on to make sure my recreation is more than recognizable. I’d turn to the side to show my earring for every photographer, and keep the elegance of the painting in my stature.
This is all merely a dream though, but isn’t it nice to have a daydream? Here’s what I would do, and if any designers are reading this, feel free to take notes… All jokes aside, I am so excited to see who will pull out all of the stops this year. Who will really bring it? I’ll touch back after the first Monday in May to write my opinions!
