Unwind to Recharge: The Ultimate Nighttime Routine
Written By : Molleigh Mae
Are you tired of feeling restless and tired in the morning? Do you struggle to fall asleep or wake up still feeling groggy? A consistent night routine can make all the difference. Ya- it’s hard to go to bed at a consistent time, but it’s harder to not have a routine.
The benefits of a night routine help signal to your brain that it’s time to sleep, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. A consistent routine can also:
Improve sleep quality
Increase energy levels
Enhance mental clarity and focus
Support physical health and well-being
Step 1: Invest in Yourself!
I trust the perfect night routine begins with a self care routine. Whether this starts with a bath or a shower- put on some John Mayer and kickstart your perfect evening. Do all of your favorite things, but don’t over complicate it. The best way to set yourself up for success is to begin with steps that are obtainable and steps you see yourself actually wanting to do- steps you can’t wait to do!
Step 2: Set a Consistent Sleep Schedule!
Set a specific bedtime and wake-up time, but actually stick to it! Even on weekends! This helps regulate your body's internal clock and improves the quality of your sleep.
Step 3: Winding Down
Engage in calming activities that help you unwind, such as:
Reading a book
Scrolling Pinterest
Stretching or yoga
Listening to music
Step 4: Disconnect from screens
The blue light emitted from screens can suppress melatonin production, making it harder to fall asleep. Try to:
Avoid screens for at least 30 min before bed
Use blue light filtering glasses (can Miu Miu just send us all a pair?)
Dim brightness and adjust the color temperature of your screens (You can make this automated daily!)
Step 5: Create a Sleep Conducive Environment
Make your bedroom YOUR sleep sanctuary
Keeping it cool
Investing in a comfortable mattress, bedding, and pillows
I can guarantee that a clean sheet night promotes extra good sleep!
Using a Hatch! Seriously- cannot recommend it enough!
Step 6: Reflect and Plan for Tomorrow
Try 5 minutes in your own thoughts!
Reflect on your day, acknowledging accomplishments and areas needing focus
Plan for tomorrow, setting clear goals and priorities
Who is the version of yourself that you want to be? What would they change in your life right now?
Building the perfect night routine takes time and experimentation. Be patient, and don't be afraid to try new activities and habits until you find what works best for you. Remember, a consistent night routine is key to improving sleep quality, increasing energy levels, and enhancing overall wellbeing. Plus sleep=beauty!
