This Summer Is All About Personal Style

If you live in New York City, you know it gets pretty hot outside...fast. Spring lasts about a week, and we’re already living through the 85-degree, humid days. If a white tank and denim shorts are all you feel like putting on, that’s completely valid. So here are some ways to add a touch of personality on those get-dressed-and-head-out-the-door days.
Head scarves: Bandanas and head scarves are an effortless way to add color, patterns, or texture to a simple look. From fringe to lace, these pieces bring versatility and visual interest. And you don’t just have to wear them as hairpieces. Tie one around your hips, slip it through your belt loops, or wrap it around your bag handles. Don’t forget to carry one in your beach bag so you can easily elevate your bikini look.
Wedges: The kitten heel has taken over the spotlight for the past few years (rightfully so). But this summer, we’re bringing back the wedge. Whether it’s a classic pair or a trend-forward flip-flop, these shoes are easy to walk in, add a nostalgic touch, and give you extra height compared to ballet flats or sandals.
Oversized sunglasses: Currently obsessed with shades big enough to hide tired under-eyes after a long night. You might look like you’re heading to a rave, but really, you’re just walking to work. They add an edge to any look, from sweatpants and an off-the-shoulder top to a full Y2K-inspired outfit consisting of capris and a halter top.
Nail art: Your nails are a personal accessory that can represent your taste and what inspires you. From colorful French manicures to geometric designs and gemstones, summer is the perfect time to experiment with the unique craft of your manicure. Zebra print, butter yellow, and polka dots aren’t just reserved for your clothing.
Unexpected jewelry: Toe rings, watches worn as necklaces, mismatched earrings... the more uncommon, the better. Individualistic jewelry can completely transform your look and even become your signature. Summer is an ideal season to curate a collection, whether you’re traveling to new places or browsing flea markets. Get creative with layering and adding bold pops.
