The Beauty of Being Snowed In

Written By : Jacqueline Rappa

There is a quiet beauty that comes with snow days: quaint moments, slow movement, and finally feeling like you have time to catch up. With back-to-back plans and being in your “yes” era for the New Year, it feels like the perfect time to stay in and appreciate your empty to-do list.

There’s nothing that excites my inner cozy girl more than planned reading time before bed. And the perks of having nothing on the agenda besides staying home? Reading can stretch all day long with a hot cappuccino in hand, wrapped in my warmest blanket, with the backdrop of snow gently covering the trees outside. I just finished a romance novel and am onto a coming-of-adulthood story, escaping into fictional worlds as mine takes a brief pause.

I feel like these periods of being “trapped” in the house always arrive right when I need them most, like a gentle reminder that it’s time to slow down, to think, to create. Even something as simple as watching a movie makes me realize, oh, that’s what I’ve been missing for so long. Just allowing myself to unwind.

These wintry white days invite you to return to the things that matter to you but may have been set aside, like calling your long-distance friend, lighting the new candles you got for Christmas, or opening the watercolor kit you bought yourself weeks ago.

Take advantage of the excuse to spend time indoors before spring creeps up (I’ll admit, I’m hoping the warmth comes sooner rather than later). Take in each season fully, because each shift reflects your growth over time.
