Soup Season

If there’s one thing about me it’s that I love to be cozy. An oversized sweatshirt on a cool day, a candle burning as I’m getting ready, a warm bowl of soup on a Sunday afternoon.
Fall is the season for homebodies. Staying in and cozying up without feeling bad about it. There’s a Norwegian word for the embodiment of this feeling - hygge, describing a quality or coziness, the feeling of comfortability and well-being. Creating a warm, happy, and simple atmosphere.
I love this word because it means something different for everyone, but it captures the essence of a feeling that’s hard to describe. For me, it means taking a morning walk in the cool, fresh air, an afternoon nap, reading a comforting book, having a home cooked meal with your loved ones, and spending a little too much time curled up on the couch.
After a busy and hot summer, it’s nice to take a step back and enjoy simple pleasures. I think the fall season reminds us that it’s sometimes okay to say no to plans, to keep your schedule open, to choose lounging over productivity. Take a load off, observe life in a slower, more intentional way.
That’s what I love about the seasons - you’re never moving at the same pace for too long. There’s always a period of rest ahead. When life feels overwhelming and chaotic, you can look to find moments of hygge, especially in the fall: a book with your morning coffee, getting to bed extra early after a long week, a crockpot meal for dinner.
As the year winds down and the leaves start to change, let’s embrace this season of rest, of comfortability, and reset.
