Looking Expensive > Being Expensive

Written By : Kitty Murphy

As we all know, trends these days are moving at a pace that no one can keep up with. Because of that (and so many other reasons), I think it’s extremely important to find your personal sense of style so you are not constantly on this hamster wheel of what’s trending and what’s ‘cheugy.’ As I reflect on the past year and try to think of what has stuck with me in terms of style, I immediately go to Sofia Richie. She is the epitome of knowing what works for you and running with it. Something that is guaranteed to never go out of style is looking expensive. Before you panic, there is a difference between looking expensive and being expensive. You don’t actually need to buy expensive pieces to look expensive so let’s talk about it.

A sure fire way to look expensive is by simply being put together, from your hair to your shoes. Whenever I see someone with a slicked hairstyle and a put together outfit, a little voice in my head just says ‘oh she’s RIIIICH.” Is this always the case? Of course not! Basics will never fail you and you can get high quality ones from tj maxx, target, old navy or skims. No one is going to know if your black bodysuit was $5 or $500, it’s all about how you style it. Another thing that I think makes you look and feel lux is fur, from scarves to coats. I recently found this fabulous sweater at tj maxx with fur cuffs on the sleeves and I can’t stop wearing it, it’s one of those pieces that just makes you feel like a million bucks. All of this is to say, you can buy your entire outfit from goodwill and look like you belong on the cover of vogue, it’s all about how you style your pieces, have fun with it!!!
