How to Make Life a Little more Magical
Written By: Grace Weidenhamer
I’ve been seeing so many social media posts of people talking about the small ways they are adding magic to their everyday lives. In a world obsessed with optimization and efficiency, there’s something refreshingly wholesome about this trend. It’s not about productivity hacks or ten-step morning routines—it’s about embracing the tiny, maybe even mundane moments that make life feel special.
● Customize, customize, customize. Why does everything have to be boring and beige? Get a funky phone case. Wear jewelry with your name on it. Set your alarm to a fun sound or embroider your everyday bag. The opportunities to customize are endless, you just have to get creative with it.
● Add a little bit of spice to your morning routine. Go get breakfast at a local diner. Take a workout class. Go for a swim. Watch a movie. Eat some pizza... anything! Even just one day a week, do something out of your “typical” routine. Life gets more exciting when you realize there are actually no rules. Healthy habits are great, but it’s okay to break them to do something different once in a while.
● Give the compliment. I know we all have moments where we say in our minds, “Wow, her shirt is super cute” or “That drink looks so yummy.” Even if it’s a small, passing thought, say it out loud! It’s highly unlikely that someone responds negatively to a compliment, so worst case, they ignore you. Best case, you brighten their whole day.
● Don’t save the outfit! Life is too short to save the outfit for a special occasion, to not wear the fancy matching pajamas on a Monday night, or to dress down so you don’t stand out. Every occasion is a special occasion when it comes to putting effort into looking and feeling good for YOU.
● Let yourself believe in things. Carry around a good luck charm. Make a wish at 11:11. Have a pre-date ritual. Look for signs from the universe. We don’t have to be so serious and cynical all the time. Magic is all around us, so don’t talk yourself out of believing in it!
● Pretend you’re the main character. Doing chores? Pretend you’re Cinderella. Out for a run? Pretend you’re in an action movie. Getting ready for work? Early-2000s rom-com vibes. If we’re being honest, we put on different personas all day long, so what does a little make-believe hurt?
● Be a hoarder. Collect coins. Get a magnet every time you travel somewhere new. Keep your grandma’s old jewelry. Keep the ticket stubs. You don’t have to keep all your junk, but it’s okay to have that drawer of chaos (aka memories) to look back on.
● Romanticize the small moments. Plate your dinner like you’re on a cooking show. Drink from the fancy glass. Light a candle. Use the cloth napkin. Write yourself a note for your lunchbox. Sit outside with your coffee and listen to the birds. Make the mundane moments a little more special by doing something nice for yourself.
