How to be That Girl

Written By : Gracie Wedienhamer

You know those girls who just seem effortlessly cool and chic—like they’ve got everything under control? The kind of girl who walks into work in a coffee-stained shirt with windblown hair and still somehow looks put together. The one who throws on old grandpa thrift store clothes and manages to make them look stylish. The girl who lets life roll off her shoulders like it’s no big deal.

Deep down, I think we all kind of want to be that girl. So, naturally, I’ve overanalyzed her—picked apart how she achieves that whimsical, laid-back, cool-girl vibe (because that’s exactly what effortlessly cool girls do, right? Overanalyze and try way too hard). Even though I haven’t quite nailed the reputation myself, here’s how you can start showing up as the effortlessly cool girl you already are inside.

1. Confidence is everything.

The #1 trait that makes someone effortlessly cool? Confidence. You know what they say: fake it till you make it. Even if you’re feeling insecure, confidence is something you can practice and project. She walks into a room with a quiet assurance. She’s confident in her presence, her knowledge, and her abilities. If you want to be that girl, start there.

2. Style is personal.

This girl wears what she wants—and she knows she looks good. It’s not about having the trendiest outfit or the most expensive bag. Her style works because it’s hers. She’s not putting on a costume to be someone shes not. You don’t need a new wardrobe or a Pinterest-perfect closet. Just wear what makes you feel good, and own it.

3. She uplifts others.

Cool girls don’t dominate the room—they share it. They’re curious. They listen. They make space for others to shine and encourage people to speak with passion. As important as it is to use your own voice, it’s just as cool to genuinely care about what others have to say. The effortlessly cool girl finds that perfect balance.

4. Passion is cool.

You know what’s actually cool? Having hobbies. These girls always seem to have some unique or niche interest—not because it’s trendy, but because they genuinely love it. In middle school, it was cool to act like you didn’t care about anything. But now? Liking things is cool. Being passionate and committed to something you love? Very cool.

At the end of the day, the coolest girls are the ones who know who they are and stay true to that. They don’t have to try too hard or constantly reinvent themselves. Because we’re all

effortlessly cool when we stop trying to fit a mold and just show up as ourselves. Pretending to be someone else? So uncool.
