How to Be Your Own Ultimate It Girl: 10 Products, Habits & Essentials
Written By: Hannah Corbett
I feel like the term IT Girl has become something of the imagination. I’d like to change the focus onto becoming your own version of It girl, rather than just a clone figure of what everyone is trying to look like. The things that make you feel and look YOUR best! Curating your life around simple products and lifestyle changes that can make your life effortlessly YOU, is something to strive for. These are my top 10 essentials that make my everyday life better, and make me feel like the ultimate ME. This is what works for me, and maybe it’ll work for you to!
Rhode Glazing Milk – Seriously, this is amazing. It’s not overhyped; it’s the perfect top coat to a face lotion and the perfect base for makeup. It makes me feel confident enough to leave the house without makeup.
Simple Modern 30 oz Pink Water Bottle – Stanley this, Hydro Flask that. I am a Simple Modern stan. I refill this 4 times a day. I love a water bottle with a straw, and the bright pink color means I never lose it. Plus, it keeps my water ice cold.
Replica Coffee Break Perfume – This perfume can never be discontinued. I want to wear it for the rest of my life. It’s cozy and kind of sexy, and my boyfriend loves it. It even lasts on my winter coats from last year!
Saie Liquid Bronzer – If I was stuck on a deserted island and could only bring one product, I would bring THIS! It is the only makeup product I truly need, and I have really light, borderline no eyebrows, so this is saying A LOT. It gives my skin a natural warmth and glow, making it look like I’ve just been sun-kissed. This bronzer is lightweight, buildable, and has the perfect blendable formula that never looks cakey—just pure, radiant skin.
Parke Denim Jeans – They are, in fact, worth the hype. I love a baggy jean, and the shape of these really does it for me. For a while, I thought I couldn’t wear jeans without a hole in the knee, but THESE changed my mind. Whatever I was going through when I thought that, Parke has changed my mind. Parke has changed the game in a lot of ways, but denim has always been their main clothing item, and they do it JUSTICE.
Pilates Class – Just book a class. Trust me, trust me, trust me. You will feel so good in your core. I’ve taken barre, hot yoga, regular gym workouts, HIIT programs—nothing has made me feel as tight in my core as classic Pilates. I loved it so much that I got my certification and now I’m teaching Pilates! Don’t knock it till you try it, plus it’s fun to be a Pilates princess.
A Signature Belt – Listen, a few weeks before I turned 25, I started wearing this belt. It’s an old Anthropologie brown belt with a silver buckle (and I’m a gold girl). I can’t stop wearing it. Yes, it’s the only belt I own, but my frontal lobe developed, and now I wear belts, and it makes my outfit twenty times better. I look and feel more put together than I ever have before when I add a belt to my outfit. You don’t need to wear one all the time—sometimes it just doesn’t go with an outfit—but trust me on this, get a belt you love and wear the crap out of it.
A Forever Type of Purse – All through high school and college, I was a Kate Spade girl. Then I landed a big-girl job and treated myself to a bag from The RealReal. It’s a black patent Gucci bag with a gold buckle, which, may I just say, I snagged for $215—a STEAL! It’s in great condition, and I’ve had it for two years now. I hope I have it forever and ever. I wear it throughout all seasons; it’s the perfect bag for me. It makes me feel good, even if I’m going out in sweats.
Home Sense & Scents – I love decorating and homemaking. Mostly, I love shopping for everything—it’s a pretty bad addiction—but what I love more than shopping is styling my house decor! It’s an entirely different vibe stepping into a room that makes you feel happy and at home. I love cozy, Nancy Meyers, eclectic style. Whatever works for you and your home, elevate it! Thrift pieces, and Facebook Marketplace has tons of pieces—it's a true gold mine!
And when it comes to scents, I’m all about a good candle, but I don’t always want to burn one just to get a break from the scent. Recently, I’ve gotten into scent sticks. I got pine tree-scented ones that I hung in the living room, and they are so light-smelling but refreshing to walk into! Especially with my dog’s hair taking over, it’s nice to walk into a refreshing, cozy pine scent rather than dog hair.Everyday Jewelry – I love jewelry, and I also love not taking it off ever. If I take it off, I probably will forget to wear it the next day. Besides my earrings, which I love to trade depending on the outfit, I never take my jewelry off. I wear one ring consistently, three bracelets, and a necklace. I love when I can’t even feel my jewelry on me. My bracelets don’t move, my ring—I've been wearing it for 5 years now—I don’t even notice it, and my necklace is so light that I usually just put it over whatever shirt I’m wearing. It adds an element of confidence when I wake up already semi-put together.
