In the Haven with Emma & Betsy Ray
Written & Interviewed By : Hannah Corbett
It all started at the lake, in the summer of 2020. Betsy and Emma Ray, two sisters with complementary talents and a shared dream, found themselves at home during the quiet days of the pandemic. They were young, creative, and restless — with a desire to build something meaningful out of a time when so much felt uncertain.
The sisters were living at home with their parents, and one afternoon, with their mom and dad nearby, they decided to start something simple but creative: a fashion brand that focused on essentials with personality.
“We just decided, you know, basics, really creative, and I could be good at business,” Emma says. “So I was like, why don’t we just start something?” And then Triple Threads was born.
Their parents supported the idea with cautious optimism, like their dad loaned them $2,000 to turn into a business — and the sisters got to work on Triple Threads..
“I called our lawyer the next day,” Emma recalls, “because everyone was remote at that point. They spent nearly half of that initial $2,000 on legal fees, ensuring they were set up properly. Then, with the remainder, they bought their first inventory of clothes. Betsy modeled pieces, Emma managed sales, and together they reinvested every dollar.
“At the start, Emma was in college and Betsy was still in high school, Our mom helped ship items for us because we were juggling everything.” Emma explains.
The early days were chaotic but full of energy. “It was like taking over their house,” Betsy says. “We started in the back room, then moved to the kitchen, then the dining room. Eventually, our parents were like, are we gonna do something about this?”
They built a warehouse in our hometown, a shop space in the back of the house, which they completely remodeled into a warehouse.
And then came Ray The Brand. Launched in November of 2024. Emma says. “For the first two months of business, we were crowded in the warehouse, It was a lot.”
Now, the sisters have grown from cramped quarters to a proper office space in Orange Beach.
Their creative vision is deeply rooted in their personal lives and the environments that shaped them. Betsy played golf all through high school and Emma started playing in college — a passion they share with family and friends. The golf-themed photoshoot for one collection took place at their home course, Farm Links. “It’s personal,” she says simply. “That’s just kind of how that came to be.”
Betsy adds, “Golf gets so trendy, but this is real to us. We try to make collections that reflect both of us” Betsy living at the beach, Emma living in a small town, and our family roots with countryside and western influences.”
This mix of aesthetics shapes their collections, setting them apart in a crowded market. Their recent Valentine’s Day collection featured horses from a friend’s farm just five minutes from their house — a vivid example of how their lifestyle directly inspires their work.
“Every collection has a little piece of our story, whether it’s one of ours or our family’s,” Betsy says. “That’s what helps us stand apart.” Emma agrees,
“People love to be part of something meaningful. They’re buying into the lifestyle, not just the clothes.”
For Betsy and Emma, every garment is more than just fabric sewn together — it’s a reflection of their values and identity. “Our goal is to send out quality pieces that really — because, at the end of the day, it's a representation of us,” Emma explains. “We need to be quality. We want it to be the perfect fit, perfect color, perfect marketing, like the perfect story.”
This dedication to quality extends to their manufacturing choices. The sisters are passionate about producing their pieces in the USA. “Our main goal was to be made in the USA,” Betsy says. “We pushed really hard to make that happen because it was very important to us.” This dream came true for them, a milestone that felt deeply personal.
“That was a big dream moment,”
Betsy says.
While their story started small, their vision is big. “We really want to get on Forbes 30 under 30 list” Emma says, laughing at the urgency of timing. “I’m running out of years, I have six years left.”
They’ve set high goals for themselves, including a secret collection they’re working hard on. “When it comes out, people will know what everyone is talking about,” Betsy teases. The sisters also plan to grow their team and expand wholesale partnerships, hoping to see their brand in stores like Revolve and more.
For them, Ray isn’t just a business; it’s a legacy.
“The goal is to have something for our kids,” Emma says. “so they can always have, a piece of Ray.”
“It’s a way to pass down our family name,” Betsy agrees. “Every piece tells a story — our lives, our family, our journey. That’s what makes it special.”
The sisters’ small business feel remains intact, even as the brand grows. “We focus so hard on the fit of things,” Betsy says. “If something’s an inch too short or too tight, we send it back for another fitting. We’re not trying to rush the collection.”
Emma agrees, “At the end of the day, it’s our name, our brand — it stands for a lot.”
They also train their entire team so every employee knows how to do everything in the warehouse — from shipping to customer service.
“We won’t settle for anything less than that love and passion.”
From cramped kitchens and makeshift warehouses in their family home to the promising rise of a lifestyle brand, Betsy and Emma Ray’s journey is a beautiful reminder that with passion, family support, and an unshakable commitment to quality, something truly meaningful can grow. More than just clothes, they’re weaving their stories, and their values into every piece — creating a legacy rooted in love, authenticity, and the kind of sisterhood that turns a business into a lifelong dream come true.
