So I'm going on vacation in a day and my suitcase is still empty. My carry-on is actually sitting in the back of my closet while I type this. But all is good and fun because I'm visually, mentally, procrastinating packing everything I’m going to bring.
And this brings me to share about how I bought nothing new for this trip. Everything I need I already have thanks to my capsule wardrobe pieces. This collection is my secret weapon for packing easily and knowing I’ll like everything I'm going to wear. If you’re looking to pack the perfect suitcase without feeling overwhelmed, this is how I make it work.
First things first, I dive into my dresser and pull out those key items I love to wear. Think versatile, like tank tops you can wear with different bottoms, speaking of bottoms, those linen pants that you got cause they were trending this past summer, they’re going to be your best friend and you’ll probably wear them everyday. With these staples, the point of them is that you can dress them up or dress them down. You can mix linen pants with sweaters and sneakers, or with tank tops and flip flops. Easily mixing and matching is KEY. It also takes away the absolute chaos that is my worst enemy, overpacking.
For example, one of my favorite pieces of clothing to rethink how I wear certain pieces is a classic white button-down. It’s not just for work meetings, I can throw it over my bikini as a cover-up for beach days or layer it over a tank and shorts for a relaxed look. And when dinner rolls around, a pair of kitten heeled sandals will elevate it.
Then there’s my trusty sweater. Instead of wearing it the same old way, I like to tie it around my shoulders or waist. My favorite thing about this, now that it’s October, pretty much everywhere in the world for vacation is going to be a little chilly around this season. So, an extra layer for those cooler evenings is a huge plus.
I feel like it's annoying being told to accessorize, but it’s true and It’s something a lot of people are missing out on. Adding on jewelry you don't usually wear to an outfit will make it feel like a brand. New. look. A pair of earrings that are too bold for your everyday life, bring them with you, I promise. A headband one day and a cute belt the next. It's seriously a game changer how a simple addition can give a whole new vibe to an outfit.
As I pack, I have to actively remind myself that rewearing items is totally OKAY. By choosing a few pieces that I know work in many different ways, I can create plenty of stylish outfits without feeling like I’m dragging my entire closet along for the ride.
So once I finally decide to get out my carry on, packing is going to be a breeze. With a bit of creativity and a willingness to think outside the box, you can pack the perfect suitcase for any trip.
